Kobelco Cranes Co., Ltd. had filed for recall of "Reverse
Steering Device" of its mini rough terrain cranes on
December 21, 2004 to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure
and Transport (MLIT) in Japan.
Measures to be offered to our Japanese Customers are as
follows :

2.Modifying actions:

1)
|
A warning buzzer that initiate each time when the Reverse-Steering
Device is activated to warn the operator, will be installed.

2)
|
RK70: A cover to prevent operational error will be
added.
RK 70-2: A partition will be added under the "Operational
error prevention cover" that is already installed.

|
3)
|
A sticker saying "Prohibited to use during driving
public roads" will be added to the cover of the
"Reverse-Steering Switch."

|
4)
|
In order to prevent operational error, Kobelco Cranes
will thoroughly inform the users with how to use the
"Reverse-Steering Device."
|
* System of the "Reverse-Steering Device"
The Reverse-Steering Device is used to enable normal steering
at construction sites when the upper carrier is facing to
the rear for operation. The steering wheel and tires of the
Kobelco's rough terrain cranes will steer in the opposite
direction only when the operator manually switches-on the
"Reverse-Steering Switch". (After operation at the
construction site is finished, the device will be released
when the operator manually switches-off the "Reverse-Steering
Switch" before driving into public roads.)
* All the other rough terrain cranes not mentioned above
are not subject to the modification.
* For relevant models which we had exported outside Japan,
we wish to voluntarily select and offer measures for betterment,
along with taking due consideration of each countries' regulations.
Kobelco Cranes Co., Ltd. will continue to dedicate itself
to the development and production of cranes with high quality
and superior safety.
